Cetane Analysis

Precision Cetane Analysis for Optimal Fuels

The cetane number reflects how quickly diesel fuel ignites under compression, serving as a key measure of combustion performance. For diesel and biodiesel blenders and refineries, precise CN analysis is essential to ensure consistent fuel quality and meet standards like ASTM D975 or EN 590. Measuring CN in fuel blends—such as biodiesel (e.g., B20) or renewable diesel—often involves tools like the Advanced Fuel Ignition Delay Analyzer (AFIDA), which uses a constant volume combustion chamber to test small samples (40 ml) in about 25 minutes, offering a faster, more efficient alternative to traditional engine-based methods like ASTM D613.
